A lost wanderer in the vast wilderness of the world searching for means to get by.
They say “money can’t buy you everything and those who run after money can never achieve true happiness”, but if happiness is being oblivious to how the world works then I would say such notion is not happiness but ignorance. Money can’t buy you happiness but it certainly can become the means to earn it. To achieve happiness one has to overcome difficulties; the greater the difficulty one overcomes the great the happiness. So why do people avoid difficult situations, there might be a simple answer – fear of failure. This has been engraved in our minds by the society, the society which is guided absurd rules and guidelines only God knows who decided to follow. Now, now let us not curse our ancestors who have followed the fight or flight instincts for us humans to evolve into the beings who question everyone decision we make so as to avoid failure. They had to follow this rule to avoid going extinct but we follow it not because there is any mortal danger but because we are told to do so. People who are guided by the societies sayings and teaching (more like commands) will only follow the the rules our ancestors follow because the society despise abnormalities. In ancient time people believed that if someone goes beyond the horizon he/she would fall over the edge of the world. That fear was instilled by society to discourage people from dispersing to new places and look for opportunities. So people were divided into classes and given duties to follow to run the society. The same tradition is being followed in today’s world in some way or the other.
Today’s culture is discouraging materialism when demanding competition in the economy by instilling inflation. It might not make much sense now if I ask why there are so many cars’ options when they all serve the same function, from point A to point B. One could say walking serves the same purpose, so why buy a car? It takes up a lot of money, space, and human toll, so why indeed buy a car. The answer starts with the word “time” and ends with the words “comfort and convenience,” we want to cover the distance of point A to point B in the shortest time and most convenient way possible, which can be done by walking, driving a car or flying a plane. Paving ways for human convenience has led to innovation, or you could also say human laziness is the most significant source of innovation. Is it possible to imagine a world where innovation was negated to avoid a possibility of a better life style, a more comfortable lifestyle i.e materialism. If there were no materialistic tendencies in humans, we would still be living in caves. Getting back to the point of today’s culture, why is materialistic tendency being discouraged? To keep the society running. Let’s say the rich society is too saturated to let others join them without a fight.
